The One Where... I got to record a podcast(?!)

So I had the most exciting day yesterday...!

An old friend of mine, the lovely Alice, works for the UCL Institute of Healthcare Engineering, and a few months ago, she invited me to be on their new podcast, Health in a Handbasket. On the podcast, they are talking all things health technology. They are covering a few different topics and different areas of medicine; it's such an exciting project!

When Alice saw my first blog post, she was in the very early stages of planning the podcast, and asked me if I would be interested in joining her to chat to someone developing the same sort of technology I was using, and of course I jumped at the chance.

On my episode, I was able to chat to Dr Ken Li (who is the nicest man on the planet!) about the developments he is making in diabetic wearable technology. I don't want to give away any spoilers (for any of you who might be interested enough to listen!), but oh my god, he is working on some incredibly exciting stuff which will change the lives of SO many diabetic people out there.

Having been diabetic for 25 years now, I have gone from syringes, to pens, to pens that remind you when you last did insulin and how much, to CGMs, and now to my pump... I've seen it all; so to get to talk to Ken and hear about the developments he is making really blew my mind.

We talked about my journey with diabetes, the challenges of the current technology, funding, the timeline for Ken's developments, and finally, both of our hopes for the future. It was honestly the most exciting day and I can't wait for you all to hear it when it comes out!

Of course, I also couldn't leave London without a catch up and a quick cocktail with Alice and her colleague Ferdouse, who hosts the show and was an absolute delight to talk to! Alice and I reminisced about Primary School (and one of my stories about tricking an old teacher into giving me Mars bars might even make it in there... sorry, Mr Haslock!).

It was such a great day, and it has given me a lot to think (and write!) about. Thanks so much Alice and Ferdouse for having me, I can't wait to see what you both have planned next!
